The above assessments will be given to students ranging from age 8-10 that are in third through fifth grade as a formative assessment that should take ten minutes per students, depending on their difficulty maybe fifteen minutes. The assessment on the left will be printed out and given to each student individually inside of the classroom. The teacher will have students draw a "snapshot" of the main idea for each day's read-aloud session. The student's knowledge will be measured when the teacher gives them a piece of paper to fold into sixths or use above assessment (Read Aloud Snapshot) writing the title of the book and their name. Each day of the week after they read aloud, the teacher will give them time to illustrate the main event or a key point from the reading. Students who don't like to draw can write a snapshot (summary) instead. At the end of the week, all of the blocks will have been filled if you read every day. The assessment on the right will include an appropriate grade level book and it will measure whether the student can comprehend the information they are reading aloud to the teacher and whether they can retell the events of the story and answer a few questions after they are done reading.
